The Christchurch Independents Team

Highcliffe Castle
The re-instated Zig-Zag path at Highcliffe
Mudeford, Christchurch

Our borough

The residents of Christchurch have been let down badly in the past few years.

  • By those who voted for the Borough to merge with Bournemouth and Poole.
  • By a government that allowed the merger to proceed.
  • Also, by the Councillors in Bournemouth and Poole who have ensured that Christchurch council tax payers will be subsidising those in the other two Borough for the next seven years because of the way council tax harmonisation is being implemented.

It is clear that the new unitary authority, dominated by Bournemouth will not look after the interests of Christchurch and its residents. But we will. On every issue and at every turn, giving Christchurch a strong, united and independent voice.

There will be a significant reduction in democratic representation after the elections on Thursday 2 May. It is important that those you elect put Christchurch and its residents first, not by Party politics.

The new Council will have 76 seats (instead of the current 125) and Christchurch will have just 10. There will be 2 for each of the 5 Wards.

This means that Christchurch will potentially always be in the minority, so it needs a strong local Independent voice. We will not be controlled by the Bournemouth Conservative Party Whip.

It also means that every voice must be made to count in standing up for Christchurch. Don’t forget those Christchurch Councillor’s who let you down by supporting the amalgamation with Bournemouth and Poole.

I have had the privilege of serving the residents of Jumpers Ward and the residents of Christchurch as a whole for 36 years as an Independent Councillor. Working on the principle that a Councillor is there to help, listen and represent its residents and not be dictated to by party politics. My daughters both grew up and went to school in Christchurch and I am involved with the youth of the Borough and am Chairman of the Christchurch Housing Society for the Elderly.

I have lived with my family in Christchurch for 22 years, and in that time have owned and run my own business within the Town Centre, building strong ties with the Christchurch Community. I have a strong belief in protecting our Town with its shops and restaurants, and keeping a close eye on over development, causing a deprivation of a thriving town, whereby flats replace shops. I want to do my best at serving the Christchurch Town Centre as a voice for its people.
